Best known worldwide for his starring role as Luke Skywalker in the first Star Wars trilogy, Mark Hamill began his acting career as a good looking leading man. He played a recurring role on General Hospital and had a regular role in Texas Wheelers before George Lucas cast him in the biggest part of his life. Portrayed as an eager young man, he gathered female fans by the million, who loved his boyish good looks.

In 1976, between the first and second Star Wars movies, Hamill was the victim of a car crash. Stories still vary, but he sustained some facial damage and his looks have never been the same. The experience seemed to age him severely, and he began to look more mature much too soon. In the last ten years or so, Hamill has put on some heft, turning his oval face into a blocky shape, making him all but unrecognizable.
