Newt’s ex-wife claims that he pushed for an open marriage until the split. He now wisely denies her claims, but admits to being unfaithful.

If open marriages and polygamous relationships became more common, there would be less political sex scandals.

Or would there still be as much controversy as in a political figure having a girlfriend and wife?

French President Francois Hollande does not hide his girlfriend and mistress, but his wife was not so comfortable with his choices leading to their separation.

Who knows what will define a political scandal in the next decade. Ironically a recent poll indicated that voters prefer Newt’s adultery to open marriage.

It is not clear how they justify that, considering adultery is lying and sneaking around, and open marriage is a consensual lifestyle choice. Apparently pretending to fit into a mold is more important than actually being honest with voters.
