3) Ricky Martin

The successful child performer turned Latin music mega star in the late 90’s and eventual Broadway baby known as Ricky Martin had been secretly out to those close to him in the industry for years before making his big reveal via his blog in 2008. To many of his fans and media outlets, he had only been confirming what most of us had known or speculated about for years and the singer had even publicly dodged the question in a 2000 interview with The Mirror and another with Barbara Walters.

The news seemed especially hard to conceal from the world after the star, who called himself a “very fortunate gay man” in his online reveal, had welcomed home twin boys via surrogacy in 2008. At that time Ricky stepped away from the limelight in order to dedicate time to being a father but many also speculated he was stepping away to avoid the heated speculation on his sexual orientation as well. Ricky has since become a huge advocate for LGBT rights and, if you can believe it, an even bigger icon in the gay community.
