Helena and Tim were the ultimate couple of alternative Hollywood and the news of their split definitely caused many a smeared black mascara.

The two first met on the set of Burton’s “Planet of the Apes” back in 2001 and subsequently collaborated on numerous other hit movie projects.

However, when we saw that Carter’s name was missing from the cast of Burton’s Christmas release called “Big Eyes”, our eyebrow skyrocketed. It was the sign that something was definitely wrong in their quirky paradise.

The couple actually never married, however, the two remained friends and will continue to raise their two children together.

“Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter separated amicably earlier this year and have continued to be friends and co-parent their children,” their reps told E! News. “We would ask that you respect their privacy and that of their children during this time.”
