Here’s a no-brainer. In 2009, one of the nastiest, most disturbing and headline-burning breakups ever happened just one night before the Grammy Awards.

Perfomer Chris Brown assaulted his then-girlfriend Rihanna in his car, after a verbal fight that was caused by a text message exchange that confirmed he had been cheating on the Barbados-born singer.

After he brutally physically assaulted her, he threw her out of the car.

Rihanna was supposed to perform live on the Grammy Awards show, but she cancelled her appearance, and no one knew why until days later, when disturbing photos of Rihanna leaked. The world was in shock and Brown was soon charged with battery.

His career spiraled down from there, and although he’s still trying to recover it – he probably never will. Rihanna stayed with Brown for a little while after the horrid assault, but couldn’t handle it anymore.

The couple made headlines again in 2012, when they got back together and this time, RiRi was the one faced with the public’s fury. However, the pair split up again but this time they brought their feud to Twitter. They engaged in a tweet war that was severely awkward to watch.
