12) A Thug’s Life: Aaron Hernandez

Less than a year after Hernandez had signed a five-year, $40 million contract extension with the New England Patriots, the ugly truth about the tight end’s double life as a murderer emerged. In June of 2013, the 24-year-old football player was arrested and charged with first degree murder for the killing of Odin Lloyd, a former friend of his. Lloyd was also dating the sister of Hernandez’s girlfriend. Some people have speculated that Hernandez eliminated Lloyd for talking about a double homicide that had occurred in 2012.

Hernandez has since been charged with the 2012 murders, as well. In that case, the football player had gotten in a disagreement with a group of men from Cape Verde at a nightclub. The Cape Verdeans left the club, but as they were driving off, a pickup truck flew past them and fired at the men. Two were killed instantly and one man was injured.

In February 2013, Hernandez also allegedly shot another associate of his, Alexander Bradley, in the face while the two were in Florida. Bradley, who lost an eye in the shooting, is suing Hernandez. In addition, Hernandez is currently awaiting trial for all three of the murders.
