20 Celebrities Who Married Ordinary People
20. Anne Hathaway and Adam Shulman
Anne Hathaway was a relative unknown in the film industry during the 20th century.
She got her start on the 1999 television series “Get Real,” but would not gain greater recognition until she played the role of Mia Thermopolis in the Disney film “The Princess Diaries.”
She reprised her role in the sequel to that film which was released in 2004.
It was not long before she was given major roles in dramatic films. She has appeared in some of Hollywood’s best films in the 21st century, including “Brokeback Mountain,” “The Devil Wears Prada,” and “Becoming Jane.”
Despite a number of high-profile beaus throughout her adult life, Hathaway ended up marrying little-known actor Adam Shulman in November 2008. After dating for three years, the couple announced their engagement in 2011.
After a one-year engagement, the couple got married in an interfaith (Jewish-Roman Catholic) service at Big Sur, California in September 2012. Throughout her career, Hathaway has been an activist for a number of different social causes.
In addition to speaking out on behalf of children around the world, most notably in favor of vaccination campaigns in developing countries, Hathaway has also been outspoken in her support of LGBT rights and same-sex marriage.
