Streep was introduced to Gummer, a sculptor, through her brother Harry.

The couple purportedly believes that their secret is a willingness to bend, goodwill, and the ability to shut up every now and again.

Despite vicious rumors of affairs making things rocky between the two (there are several allegations about Streep having a fling with Jack Nicholson while working on the film Ironweed in 1987, nine years into her marriage to Gummer), this couple seems to keep it together pretty well.

Their wedding was a quiet 1978 event at Streep’s parents’ home in Mason’s Island, Connecticut. They waited almost a full year (until May 1979) to celebrate with friends at a cocktail reception.

Streep’s wedding band is simple and slim, and she still wears it until this day. Classic and elegant, just like the star herself.
