22 Of Hollywood’s Happiest Celebrity Couples
18. Susan Geston and Jeff Bridges
Susan Geston was a young aspiring photographer working as a waitress on a ranch in Montana when Bridges, who was on location filming the western comedy “Rancho Deluxe,” stopped in for a bite to eat.
He was immediately enamored with Geston and asked her out on a date. She said no.
Geston attended the film’s wrap party, and Bridges asked her to dance.
“I had a feeling of being at home, a soothing feeling of being where I belonged,” Bridges recalls. “When I got back to Los Angeles, I realized I had fallen in love with her in that week.”
Bridges wrangled his best friend, TV writer and producer David Greenwalt, into driving to Montana in a “trashed out” motor home to find Geston. They talked her into taking a road trip with them, and Bridges fell even more deeply in love. Greenwalt remembers that Geston could drink and swear them both under the table.
Bridges convinced Geston into moving in with him in his Malibu home. He proposed to her on May 31, 1977, and they married five days later in their back yard. The union produced three daughters: Isabelle, Jessica and Hayley.
Looking back at their 33-year marriage, Geston told “Rolling Stone” in 2010 that “we had our rough times, but it was also fun.” Bridges gives credit to intimacy, laughter and lots of sex for their strong marriage.
