17) Winona Ryder & David Duchovny

This 1996 romance tops all of the “celeb relationship blips you didn’t know about” list simply because the rumor mills are so abuzz (even now) with how it went down. There doesn’t seem to be anyone on the Hollywood A-List who knows what the real deal is (including Ryder and Duchovny themselves).

What we can tell you are the few circulating facts so that you can, perhaps, draw your own conclusions. At the time, Dechuvny claimed that he was madly in love with Ryder. Ryder, apparently, didn’t reciprocate because she told press that they were just good friends and titled herself “single”. In a 1997 interview with Playgirl, Duchovny concurred with Ryder and said (perhaps a little too quickly) that they were, after all, just good friends. He then steered the conversation away from his personal life saying that he doesn’t like to talk about it.

Whatever the case, this clearly wasn’t something that worked out in any way, shape, or form. Ryder is currently single, and Duchovny is in a rocky sometimes-together sometimes-separated marriage with Tea Leoni.
