When Roberts got together with this now-action television star in the spring of 1990, we wondered whether this pretty woman had finally met her match. These two first encountered each other while filming Flatliners, a 1990 thriller. In 1991, Roberts told USA Today that the relationship was kindled because of their constant exposure to each other; together all the time, their love simply blossomed.

The pair was engaged in the winter of 1990, and set to be married on the 20th Century Fox Soundstage. In a torrid and wild decision, Roberts broke the engagement three days before the wedding (on June 18th 1991) and jet set to Ireland with Jason Patic. In 1997, Roberts claimed that she had no regrets since the pair wasn’t ready to get married and in 2007, Sutherland even came out and commended her for her actions. Despite the pain this must have caused both of them, we can’t help but see art imitating life. Her 1999 film Runaway Bride must have struck a few chords with this heartbreaker and the men she ruined. Indeed, it took Sutherland a full ten years to get his career back on track after being jilted.
