Superstar Elizabeth Taylor married construction worker Larry Fortensky at Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch in 1991 after they both met and fell in love in rehab. Just over five years later, the couple went their separate ways. A big surprise, right? Not if you read their prenup. Liz promised her ex $1 million if he lasted at least five years with her. He did so and Taylor reportedly paid him off. He earned every penny.

Though Liz watchers weren’t completely sure about the actual romance between the two, since he was 20 years her junior and they didn’t have a lot in common besides trying to battle alcoholism, maybe she was happy to finally have some love and security in her life after all her ups and downs over the years.

However, legal watchers seemed satisfied that Liz may have learned something about their world – after eight marriages, she may have picked up a thing or two about planning ahead and protecting both parties in case love ends.
