Cuba Gooding Jr. Divorces Wife After 20 Years of Marriage

After 20 years, funnyman Cuba Gooding Jr. is being dumped to the curb by his wife, Sara Kapfer. The estranged spouse claimed irreconcilable differences as the cause for the separation, filed on April 22nd. The former couple have three children together.

The two met in high school and were married in 1994. Gooding sang his praises for his lovely lady in a 2013 episode of “The View,” stating that they had their difficulties, but he remained very much in love with her after two decades of marriage. Gooding even claimed in a candid interview that the two have a rule to never go more than a month before seeing each other, despite his busy filming schedule.

Gooding is best known for his role and subsequent Academy Award win for Best Supporting Actor in 1996’s “Jerry Maguire.” The actor reached lists of famous movie lines for his exclaimed quote, “Show me the money!” Gooding took a foray into kiddie movies after the notable film. His brother, Omar, also showed up on Nickelodeon shows family friendly sitcoms. Gooding appeared on Broadway productions before getting his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2002.

Kapfer, a teacher, was reported to have been Gooding’s girlfriend in high school before reconciling with the actor and wedding in 1994. It hasn’t been reported what the “irreconcilable differences” stated in the report regarding their separation are truly about. Tabloids have been quick to quote Gooding’s statement that he has wanted to kill his wife at times during his interview with “The View,” but that rumor seems to be reaching with the squeaky clean image that Gooding portrays in the public eye.

Their children, Piper, age 8, Mason, age 17, and Spencer, age 19, are being sought for joint custody by the two; according to the separation filing. Gooding has yet to reach out with his own detailed account of the marriage drama at the time of the reports. With the sudden and unexpected urgency of the filing, fans are left to wonder if more juicy details will be released publicly regarding the former couple’s breakup.
