Shakira on Her Love Life With Gerard Piqué

Colombian singing sensation Shakira and Gerard Pique, who is a professional soccer player from Spain, began dating in 2010 and live in Barcelona, Spain together. The couple share a son named Milan Pique Mebarak, who was born in January of 2013. Shakira recently made some controversial remarks about her relationship with the Spaniard. The Latin beauty called him “territorial” and noted that because of him, she’s no longer allowed to shoot music videos with other men.

Many fans were extremely shocked by Shakira’s comments, finding them antiquated and perhaps even worse yet, sexist and controlling. The “Hips Don’t Lie” chanteuse was quick in attempting to correct them, however. Soon after her comments hit the media, she addressed them, hoping to quell the many surprised reactions. She addressed her own role in the relationship, expressing that she too has rules for her partner.

However, she also further surprised fans by referring to her relationship with Pique as being “asphyxiating” and “smothering.” Shakira indicated that Pique feels extremely protective of her. While the singer likely meant to soften her previous comments with these words, many remained totally baffled.

Shakira has now finally put all the confusing comments about her relationship to bed. Describing her relationship’s power balance as being “fairly equal,” she went on to refer to her interaction with Pique as being “beautiful.” She also waxed poetic about the “mutual trust” that exists between them. Importantly, she stressed that her boyfriend doesn’t boss her around. She indicated that they deal with things together as a team, talking things over and taking each other’s feelings into consideration.

Not only does Shakira appear to be absolutely thrilled about her relationship with Pique, but she also appears to be elated about her new gig as a mother, saying that it changed her life. She also recently declared that she’s in the midst of one of her life’s best periods. If fans of Shakira were worried before about her happiness and well-being, they shouldn’t be anymore. The multi-talented pop star seems like she has it all figured out, romance-wise.
