Conscious uncoupling: Chris Martin Breaks Silence

Ever since Gwyneth Paltrow, 41, announced on March 25 that she and husband Chris Martin, 37, were going through a “conscious uncoupling,” the Coldplay lead singer had remained silent on the subject. Now, however, Martin is finally speaking out about the couple’s separation. Somewhat surprisingly, he’s blaming himself for the demise of the couple’s 11-year-long marriage.

During an interview with BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe on April 28, Martin stated, “You can be with someone wonderful, but because of your issues, you can’t let that be celebrated in the right way.”

He also told Lowe, “Up to a certain point in my life, I wasn’t completely vulnerable and it caused some problems. If you don’t let love in, then you can’t really give it back.” Obviously, Martin feels that he is a man with some issues, and he’s not afraid to share them.

At least Coldplay may have benefitted from the couple’s conscious uncoupling. According to Martin, the breakup influenced a lot of the songs on his new album, “Ghost Stories,” which is due out on May 19th. This has caused Paltrow a bit of anxiety, according to “In Touch Weekly,” which quotes sources as saying that the actress is worried Martin could reveal too much about their split while promoting his new album. Those sources revealed that Paltrow has asked Martin not to talk about their divorce or relationship.

After Paltrow’s initial announcement about the couple’s conscious uncoupling on her Goop site, the marriage has been the subject of much speculation and also more than a few jokes. Many are wondering, for example, how the couple — the parents of two children, Apple, 9, and Moses, 7 — are going to split their reported $280 million fortune. In addition, reports also surfaced that the couple had been living separate lives for a while, and there were also allegations that both parties had cheated during the marriage. Both Martin and Paltrow have denied those rumors.
