Neil Young To Divorce His Wife Pegi After 36 Years Of Marriage
Rolling Stone magazine reports that the 68-year-old rocker filed for divorce from his wife of 36 years, Pegi Young, in the couple’s hometown of San Mateo in California on 29 July.
Neil’s Inspiration
The couple fist met at the diner near Neil’s California ranch where Pegi worked as a waitress and they got married in August 1977.
It is said that, beside numerous musical collaborations Pegi and Neil have had so far, the beautiful waitress was also the main inspiration behind many of his love songs, including Unknown Legend and Once An Angel.
Pegi’s career
In 1990s Pegi started touring with Neil as a backup singer. The two performed at the Oscars in 1994, when Neil’s song Philadelphia was nominated for Best Original Song and in 2000, Young officially joined her husband on tour as a backup singer.
Pegi released her first solo album in 2007 after recording songs in her home studio at the Broken Arrow Ranch. Since then, she has created two additional albums, “Foul Deeds” in 2010 and “Bracing for Impact” a year later.
Life together
Neil and Pegi are the parents of two grown children, daughter Amber and son Ben. Inspired by the difficult condition of their son Ben who has cerebral palsy, they co-founded the “Bridge School” back in 1986, through which they help educate children with severe speech and physical disabilities.
The two were scheduled to perform together at the “Farm Aid benefit” in North Carolina in September, but due to the latest circumstances, Pegi has recently been removed from the line-up.
Reasons for Neil’s filing for divorce are yet to be revealed. Stay tuned.
