Bahamian-American actor turned diplomat Sidney Poitier married former Canadian actress Joanna Shimkus in 1976. The two have been going strong ever since; with two daughters to call their own. Poitier assumed his diplomatic post as Ambassador of the Bahamas to Japan in April of 1997 and his wife has had the right to call herself “Lady Poitier” ever since; that’s one way to treat her like a lady!
