Johnny Weir & Husband Victor Voronov: ‘Happily Reconciled’
Surprise! Despite all of the ugly and vicious accusations that were exchanged between Johnny Weir and his husband Victor Voronov, the two announced on May 6 via Twitter that they have reconciled. Just two months ago, such a reconciliation would have seemed inconceivable. At that time, Weir had accused his husband of being a control freak who not only abused him emotionally, but also physically abused the couple’s dog, Tema.
Now, however, the two men have apparently worked things out. Weir’s tweet read, “My husband and I have happily reconciled. Please respect our privacy and integrity at this time.” The flamboyant 29-year-old skater also added, “Love is dangerous. Love is safe. Love is ugly. Love is beautiful. To love hard, is the greatest gift, even with all its flaws. Keep shining.”
The couple, who were married in late December 2011, officially announced their split on March 19th, shortly after Weir returned home from Sochi, Russia, where he had been working as an NBC skating correspondent for the 2014 Winter Olympics.
At that time, Weir had tweeted out, “It is with great sadness that I announce that my husband and I are no longer together. My heart hurts, and I wish him well.” Things, however, quickly turned ugly, with Weir accusing Voronov of cutting him off from his friends and family members. He also claimed that Voronov destroyed one of his prized Birkin bags.
In turn, Voronov claimed that Weir had cheated on him throughout their relationship and that he also sent nude selfies of himself to men on the gay social networking site, Grindr.
Because so much of the couple’s acrimonious split played out in public forums, the reconciliation took many by surprise. In April, Voronov denied that the two were reconciling, even telling US Weekly that the divorce was still going to happen. At the time, he blamed Weir’s mom, saying, “Johnny’s meddling mother was definitely the source of the breakdown of our marriage.”
For now, however, it looks like the two are going to try to make this rocky relationship work out.
