Robert Downey Jr Asks For Matthew Broderick’s Permission To See Sarah Jessica Parker
Robert Downey and Sarah Jessica Parker dated from 1984 until 1991, and now, 23 years later, the Iron Man actor would like to see his ex-girlfriend once again and catch up.
Broderick’s Permission
However, Robert is aware this might seem as if he had some hidden agendas behind the whole idea and it might cause some problems and stir between the three of them, so he says he will only get in touch with her if her husband Matthew Broderick gives the green light.
“I’ll make a point of trying to see her while I’m here. I’d like to,” said Robert while speaking on Howard Stern’s radio show. “I’ll ask her husband’s permission. I just want to check in for a few minutes. I love Matthew Broderick.”
Robert & Sarah
The duo dated when they were only teenagers after meeting on the set of the movie “Firstborn” (1984). However, the relationship went south as Robert started battling his addictions.
The actor was asked if Sarah broke his heart, and the Iron Man said that he wasn’t quite sure what was going on back then since they were really young, but that he certainly felt a void after losing someone he’s been with for seven years.
“I’ve never been the kind of person to acknowledge what’s going on with me at the time, and I’d try to make light of it, but sure, when you’re with someone for seven years, 18 to our mid-20s, it’s kind of a big deal.”
Robert also stated during the interview that if Sarah and him were to meet, their spouses would be there as well. He even went as far as to invite talk show host Howard along to the big reunion.
“I’d love to have Matthew there. I’ll bring Susan. Would you mind coming just to kind of mediate the whole thing? It would be a natural extension seeing as you’re a part of the conversation,” joked Robert.
