Something From Nothing: Top 14 Famous Gold Diggers
2) Heather Mills
Known to her acquaintances as someone who had only a passing relationship with the truth, Heather Mills didn’t surprise anyone when she parlayed a couple of trips and meetings about a charity event into marriage with one of the most famous musicians on the planet, Sir Paul McCartney. Their years together were the stuff of tabloid heaven, between her pregnancy scares, the birth of her daughter, intense rivalry with McCartney’s daughter Stella, and pitiful attempts at making it big in the television industry.
Mills’ ego may have gotten the best of her when it came to her divorce hearing, though. Instead of hiring a team of high-powered attorneys, as McCartney obviously would, she decided to represent herself, along with her sister and a couple of attorney friends. Her own father said she was brave, but that McCartney’s attorneys were obviously going to rip her to shreds. The justice in charge of the proceedings found her a less than credible witness with constantly changing testimony. Mills wanted $250 million as a divorce settlement, but only ended up with one tenth of that, and most of it tied up in annual payments for the support of her daughter.
