Will Arnett Files for Divorce From Amy Poehler
Sometimes life imitates art. Will Arnett, most famous for his role on “Arrested Development,” filed divorce papers on April 8 to officially end his marriage to “Parks and Recreation” star Amy Poehler. The divorce petition, first reported on April 16th by People magazine, cites irreconcilable differences.
The couple originally announced their separation to Us Weekly, 18 months ago in September 2012. The couple had been married for nine years and have two sons together: five-year-old Archie and three-year-old Abel. The news was heartbreaking for many of their fans.
This is Will Arnett’s second divorce. It will be Amy Poehler’s first divorce. Arnett is requesting joint legal and physical custody of their two sons. He is also requesting visitation rights. Arnett credits his kids with his happiness. “I’m 43, and I’ve found my happiness, which is my kids,” he told Details magazine in May 2013.
Arnett also told Details magazine that “going to the gym obsessively for eight, nine months was [his] way of dealing.” Arnett has not lost faith in marriage, though, telling Details in the same interview that he “certainly” still believes in the institution of marriage.
The couple seem to have moved on. Amy Poehler is reportedly romantically involved with Nick Kroll, who appears on “Parks and Recreation” as a shock jock named “The Douche.” The relationship began early last year. Will Arnett has been linked with Katie Lee, the celebrity chef and ex-wife of Billy Joel. They began dating last August.
As far as life imitating art, Arnett’s character married Poehler’s on “Arrested Development” on a dare. They later divorced on the show after a series of awkward events
Arnett had a real-life awkward event at this year’s Emmy awards. One interviewer asked him how he and his wife prepped for the ceremony, to which he responded “I don’t really have a significant other… She doesn’t exist.” Arnett and Poehler were later seen backstage together watching the telecast. Maybe those heartbroken fans can take refuge in the fact that they don’t seem to hate each other.
