Woody Allen On His Marriage To Soon-Yi Previn – ‘I Thought It Would Just Be A Fling’
In a recent interview for NPR, the famous writer, actor and director spoke in detail about their dynamic 23-years-old romance.
Not Just a Fling
Woody admitted that he didn’t exactly go into the whole thing with high hopes and said that he thought it wouldn’t last.
“I started the relationship with her and I thought it would just be a fling. It wouldn’t be serious, but it had a life of its own. And I never thought it would be anything more. Then we started going together, then we started living together, and we were enjoying it. She enjoyed being introduced to many, many things that I knew from experience, and I enjoyed showing her those things,” he said for NPR.
Why Their Age Difference ‘Didn’t Seem To Matter’
Reflecting on the beginning of their relationship, the 79-year-old actor explained why they clicked and why the age difference actually acted as a catalyst, rather than an obstacle.
“I’m 35 years older, and somehow through no fault of mine of hers, the dynamic worked. I was paternal. She responded to someone paternal. I liked her youth and energy. She deferred to me and I was happy to give her an enormous amount of decision-making just as a gift and let her take charge of many things. She flourished. It was just a good luck thing,” Woody admitted.
Woody and Soon-Yi’s first started dating back in 1992 when Woody was dating her adoptive mother Mia Farrow, which is why their personal life has been a target of many a tabloid over the years. However, the two managed to fight off and overcome the fact that they will always be a source of huge public interest.
Love conquers all, indeed.
